Don't worry about how other kids think. It's usually the adults that you'll need to worry about as they are the ones who impart their own preconceived perceptions onto the kids.

Re: Four-Eyed Kids Are Deemed to Be Smarter

Thanks for linking to this study. My daughter is 1 1/2 and has glasses. It was really hard to see her with glasses and I was definitely worried about the perceptions of other kids (I realize that the study looked at older kids), so I'm glad to hear that maybe that's not much of an issue anymore. I agree with you that in movies and TV shows, glasses tend to be a short hand way of indicating that a character is smart.

Re: Stressed Parents Result in Ill Children

While it makes sense, I must comment that being a parent sometime inevitably makes one become anxious and depressed. Anxious about almost everything concerning one's child (especially if it is the first born) and depressed that one will not be able to take care or provide for him/her.

Anyway's great blog.............good to see father's like us relating our parenting experiences. Matthew likes the big open spaces where he can run around. However, there is much construction going on at the moment for the upcoming Integrated Resort that will be built on Sentosa.

Re: Thumb Sucking

Isaak, I enjoyed finding your post. I bet Matthew is a delight, given his super-caring parents. I love Singapore, by the way. I had the opportunity to come speak to pediatricians and to parents there, and loved the people and the place (and the food!). I hope my family gets to see Sentosa some day.

Re: Smacking You Child is Banned in New Zealand

is there any statisics oon the child abuse caused? when will the Australian Government use their brains and have sense to do somthing about child abuse and try and do something about teenage suicide. i'm a teenager and have suffered from hurting friends. we need to see a change.

Re: Would You Pay Your Kids for Good Grades?

Hi Karen, thanks for dropping by. Everything's well.

Yah ... my parents didn't pay me to do well in my studies. But then again, my grades weren't that fantastic for them to pay me. :) But what was, to me, most important was that my parents taught me that the 'learning to learn' portion was more important than the grades. However, they did made sure throughout my student life that I passed my exams sufficiently to get promoted to the next level and eventually to graduate.

Re: Would You Pay Your Kids for Good Grades?

Hi Issak. Hope all is well with you.

I'm not sure about paying kids for grades. Somehow it almost robs a child of doing something for themselves because it feels good. Paying them takes away the personal motivation. I guess I could see paying a child that really the extra encouragement or incentive. Perhaps paying a child after they've past the point of internal motivation. I didn't get any money for my grades until I was a junior or senior. It wasn't a certain amount or anything. I remember that all my grades were above a 96 and my dad gave me $20.
